Brisbane Faces Cool Temperatures and Persistent Rain Through Early Next Week
Brisbane will be the coolest Australian capital on Monday, with a rain band expected to linger over south-east Queensland into early next week.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Brisbane will remain the coldest capital city on Monday, with temperatures topping out at about 20 °C—one degree cooler than Perth and several degrees below the peaks in Sydney and Melbourne. Dean Narramore, a senior meteorologist, explained that a combination of moist easterly winds and an inland trough is sustaining a cool, cloudy pattern across south-east Queensland. The rain band is projected to persist into early next week, potentially delivering up to 150 mm of rain by the end of Sunday.
So far, inner-northern suburbs have seen the most intense precipitation, with Eagle Farm recording 53 mm and Lytton 49 mm since Sunday morning. The bureau warned that urban areas could experience flash flooding as runoff overwhelms concrete surfaces. While the week will gradually warm, the heaviest rains and thunderstorms are expected later in the week, with brief clear periods forecast for Monday afternoon and Tuesday.
Why it matters
Extended cool, wet weather could cause flooding and disrupt daily life in Brisbane and surrounding areas.
