Brisbane truck driver sentenced to 19 years for child abuse scheme in Philippines

Kevin Raymond Doyle, a former truck driver from Brisbane, received a 19-year prison term after pleading guilty to 98 child-sex-abuse offences linked to livestreams in the Philippines.

Kevin Raymond Doyle, 62, a former Brisbane truck driver, orchestrated a multi-year campaign that involved paying $5,000 to view live streams of 25 children being sexually abused in the Philippines, and travelled there twice attempting to arrange direct contact. After his 2019 arrest at Brisbane International Airport, investigators examined his phone and uncovered a large cache of child sexual abuse material and communications planning further abuse.

The Australian Federal Police forwarded the findings to Philippine authorities, prompting an operation that rescued seven victims, including a five-year-old. In February of the previous year Doyle pleaded guilty to 98 offences, ranging from planning sexual acts with children to transmitting child pornography. The Brisbane Supreme Court handed down a 19-year sentence, with a non-parole period of 12 years. Officials highlighted the case as an example of the importance of international police cooperation in combating online child exploitation.

Why it matters

The case underscores the global threat of online child exploitation and the need for cross-border law-enforcement collaboration.
