Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia eyed for Hezbollah disarmament verification mission

Israel and Lebanon, under a U.S.-brokered framework, have identified Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia as candidate contributors to a proposed verification mechanism for Hezbollah's disarmament. The shortlist emerged from recent talks in Rome and could involve these states defining the mission’s parameters, supplying personnel, or deploying troops to monitor inspections in southern Lebanese villages. Israel seeks to include private homes in the checks, a point Lebanon's army resists without warrants.

A Lebanese official confirmed the list but said the United States will decide the final participants. Both governments have not yet commented, and Switzerland has not responded. The arrangement ties Israel's staged withdrawal from Lebanon to the successful verification of Hezbollah's weapons being removed.
