British Auditor Kidnapped in Broad Daylight in Malawi's Blantyre City
Police say 47-year-old British auditor Nusrat Osman was seized by four men in a grey Nissan Dualis in Blantyre around noon on Friday, and a reward of over £12,600 has been offered for information.
On Friday at roughly 12:30 pm local time, four men in a grey Nissan Dualis grabbed British citizen Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old mother of two who works for a local auditing firm, in the city of Blantyre. Police have initiated a public appeal, sending text messages to residents and offering a reward of more than £12,600 for reliable information that could lead to her safe recovery and the perpetrators' prosecution. The kidnappers have neither contacted Osman’s husband nor the authorities, and no motive has been identified.
The United Democratic Front president, Atupele Muluzi, denounced the kidnapping on his Facebook page, warning that such incidents are becoming increasingly common in Malawi. Local outlet Nyasa one outlet reported the husband’s statement that he has no idea of his wife’s whereabouts. Investigators continue to pursue leads while the community awaits further developments.
