British Columbians head to the polls in snap provincial election

On Saturday, voters in British Columbia will cast ballots in a snap provincial election with polling open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

British Columbia’s snap provincial election, announced last month, will take place on Saturday with polls operating between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Over 350 candidates are standing in 93 electoral districts. To vote, individuals must be 18 or older on Oct. 24 and have been Canadian citizens residing in the province since April 23, 2026. Voters will receive information cards indicating their polling locations, and Elections B.C. offers an online tool to find the nearest site.

Acceptable ID requirements are published, and voters without proper documents may have their identity vouched for by an eligible person; same-day registration is also allowed. One outlet will provide live coverage after polls close, featuring a special program hosted by Gloria Macarenko and Jason D’Souza.

Why it matters

The election will determine the next provincial government and policies affecting British Columbians.
