British diver found dead at 88 meters in Lot's Saint-Sauveur sinkhole

A 43-year-old British diver lost his life during a dive in the Saint-Sauveur sinkhole, located in the northern part of the Lot department. He did not return from his Friday evening dive in the area belonging to the commune of Calès, prompting a two-day search by emergency services. Divers from the Marseillan nautical brigade and the French Speleology Federation eventually found his body at a depth of 88 m, but the sinkhole’s layout prevents immediate retrieval. Authorities said a new recovery attempt will be made shortly and have opened an inquiry to determine the circumstances of the fatality.
