British Father Charged After Toddler Falls to Death from Cyprus Hotel Window

A British man pleaded guilty after his two-year-old son fell about 40 ft from an open window at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel in Cyprus, killing the child.

During a family holiday in Cyprus, 37-year-old British auditor Joshua Foster placed his two-year-old son on a windowsill at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas, believing the window was closed and protected. The child looked out at a nearby waterpark, the window was open, and he fell roughly 40 ft from the fourth floor, dying despite resuscitation at Paphos General Hospital. Foster had already pleaded guilty to causing death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act, and a Paphos District Court hearing detailed the events, including his claim that he was focused on entertaining his child.

Prosecutors noted a prior statement that Foster had been swinging the child before setting him down, though the judge found no link to the fall. A blood sample taken after the incident indicated an alcohol concentration of about 124 mg. The court will deliver a sentence on October 16, with potential professional disciplinary consequences.
