British father to be sentenced after toddler falls from Cyprus hotel window
Joshua Foster, a 37-year-old Briton, will be sentenced in Paphos for the death of his two-year-old son who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window during a family holiday.
During a July 12 holiday at the five-star King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas, Joshua Foster put his two-year-old son on a windowsill to let him look at a nearby waterpark. Unaware that the window was open, the child fell from the fourth floor, a drop measured at about 2.85 metres in width and 1.2 metres in height. Emergency services rushed the boy to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after unsuccessful resuscitation.
Foster, accompanied by his father-in-law, was later charged and pleaded guilty to causing death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. At a hearing in Paphos District Court, his attorney warned that the tragedy will haunt him for life, while the prosecutor labeled the behavior as careless. The sentencing is scheduled for Friday at the same court.
