British police officer charged with rape and kidnapping after high-speed chase
A Greater Manchester Police officer named Mohammad Hassan has been charged with rape and kidnapping following a high-speed pursuit on the M62.
At 10:18 p.m., Greater Manchester Police responded to a report of a woman in distress inside a car in the Manchester area. Officers located the vehicle, but the driver escaped and was subsequently identified as Mohammad Hassan, an officer of Asian-Pakistani ethnicity. Hassan was apprehended after a high-speed pursuit on the M62, facing charges of rape, kidnapping and dangerous driving.
He has been suspended from duty and the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for investigation. The Professional Standards Directorate confirmed his vetting posed no prior concerns. A magistrates' court appearance has been arranged to address the charges.
