A survey of 2,500 students from five major source countries found that British fictional characters and cultural icons heavily influence their choice to study in the UK.
Censuswide surveyed 2,500 UK-based international students, sampling 500 individuals from each of the five leading sending nations. The research revealed that 59% consider fictional British characters a strong pull factor, naming Peppa Pig (19%), Mr Bean (21%), Harry Potter (22%) and James Bond (21%) as influential. British culture overall swayed 83% of respondents, while 62% said UK music played a major role, with Ed Sheeran mentioned by 18% of those students.
Additionally, 58% reported that broader British cultural icons, such as Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, David Beckham and King Charles III, impacted their decision.
