British tourist dies after falling down hostel stairwell in Tarragona

A British visitor in his forties fell from a third-floor height at a Tarragona hostel and died, prompting a police investigation.

A British tourist, estimated to be around 40 years old, died after a fall from a stairwell at a hostel located on Carrer de la Unió in central Tarragona. The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, shortly after the visitor returned to the hostel with a companion following a weekend trip from Barcelona. Witnesses say he may have slipped while climbing the stairs, dropping to a height equivalent to the third floor.

Paramedics from Catalonia’s Emergency Medical System and a resident doctor tried to revive him on site, but he was pronounced dead. Hostel staff alerted authorities, and the regional police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, launched an investigation, treating the death as accidental. Speculation about alcohol playing a role has been reported but not confirmed.
