Sonia Exelby, a 32-year-old music tutor from Portsmouth who struggled with depression and body dysmorphia, was found dead in a shallow grave in a Florida woodland on October 17 after traveling from the UK to meet Dwain Hall, a 54-year-old father of two she encountered on a fetish website. Police say her computer contained evidence of suicidal intent and that she may have paid Hall to kill her. A medical examiner determined she suffered four stab wounds.
Hall has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, fraudulent credit-card use and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, and his trial begins on November 16. Exelby's siblings claim she was groomed for two years and had intended to expose a group of men targeting vulnerable women. They have launched a GoFundMe to cover travel costs, after an Airbnb cancelled their booking when they explained the purpose of their trip.
