Broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray Succumbs to Complications After North London Crash
Dame Jenni Murray died on 12 March, eight days after a collision near Hampstead Heath that left her with rib and sternum fractures and later bronchopneumonia.
Coroner Tony Murphy concluded that the former Woman’s Hour presenter died from bronchopneumonia triggered by injuries sustained in a crash near Hampstead Heath on 4 March. Dr Clare Morkane said Murray was dazzled by vehicle lights, collided with two stationary cars, and after exiting the vehicle on her own, was taken to the Royal Free Hospital. She suffered multiple rib fractures, a sternum break and a collapsed lung, initially receiving non-invasive ventilation before moving to intensive care.
The Metropolitan Police investigated the incident but closed the case with no further action. One outlet figures, including director-general Tim Davie and Radio 4 controller Mohit Bakaya, paid tribute to her legacy as a broadcasting icon.
