Bronx commuter stabbed multiple times while holding subway gate open
A 37-year-old rider who kept an emergency gate open on a Bronx subway train was repeatedly slashed during a fight, and is now in stable condition.
Authorities report that a 37-year-old commuter was keeping an emergency gate open for fellow passengers at the No. 4 train stop on West 170th Street and Jerome Avenue in Mount Eden when a violent confrontation erupted. A person armed with a blade repeatedly stabbed the rider, inflicting numerous wounds across his body. Emergency services transported him to Lincoln Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the early-morning assault. The episode comes days after a separate incident in which a 65-year-old NYU security guard was shoved onto the tracks at the East 180th Street platform, an attack that led the perpetrator to later seek help at a psychiatric clinic.
