Bronx cyclist fatally struck by alleged 100-mph hit-and-run driver

A 51-year-old man was killed on Bruckner Boulevard after a driver allegedly traveling 100 mph ran a red light and hit him, then fled.

Angelo Camera, 51, was riding his bicycle across Bruckner Boulevard at Longwood Avenue in the South Bronx around 9:30 p.m. when a vehicle allegedly traveling 100 mph ran a red light and struck him. Moments earlier, Camera had called his partner Vilmary Martinez to say he would be home in ten minutes after work as a mechanic. After the crash, Martinez called back to find a different voice on the line and later learned from detectives that Camera suffered severe injuries, including broken limbs, and was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.

Police identified the driver as a 37-year-old woman who, after the collision, hit two parked cars, a Hyundai Sonata, a Volkswagen, and a Chevy Explorer before ditching the BMW and allegedly switching to another vehicle to flee. The Hyundai driver was hospitalized in stable condition. No arrests have been made, and Martinez is demanding that the suspect be captured and prosecuted.
