Brussels Region budget 2027 introduces zero-percent energy-renovation loans
The 2027 budget for the Région bruxelloise will launch interest-free loans for household energy upgrades, announced by climate secretary Ans Persoons.
The Région bruxelloise adopted its 2027 budget on Sunday, featuring a new program of interest-free loans for home energy-efficiency projects. Climate and urban renovation secretary Ans Persoons said the loans will become available in the spring of 2027 and are intended to lower reliance on fossil fuels. The initiative will phase out one outlet Renolution subsidies, which the government argues were prone to budget overruns and did not consistently target those most in need.
By shifting to a loan-based model, authorities claim the system will be more financially viable and better directed toward households lacking the means to invest in renovations. The budget also includes other measures, but the loan scheme is highlighted as a key step toward a more inclusive energy transition.
Why it matters
It aims to make energy-saving home upgrades accessible to low-income Brussels residents.
