BSF saves ten Bangladeshi travelers after boat capsizes in River Ganga

On the evening of September 12, BSF personnel from the 71 Battalion in Malda observed a capsized boat in the Ganga River and quickly responded with a speedboat. The team rescued ten Bangladeshi nationals - three children, three women and four men - including a newborn infant who was treated on site and later stabilized. The passengers explained that they were crossing the Padma (Ganga) River from Chapai Nawabganj to their home village of Joharpur when the boat overturned, and the strong current carried them toward the Indian border.
BSF troops carried out the rescue operation, provided first aid, and transported the survivors to the nearest government hospital. After completing formalities, the rescued individuals were transferred to the 53 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The incident highlights cross-border cooperation and the challenges of river travel in the region.
