Bucharest Hospital Launches New Robotic Urology Program for Cancer Patients

The Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele Clinical Hospital in Bucharest has started a robotic-assisted urology program targeting prostate and kidney cancers.

The Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele Clinical Hospital in Bucharest has introduced a robotic-assisted urology service focused on prostate cancer, renal tumours and urinary tract reconstruction. Funded through the EU-backed INOFORMDOC project, the system enables minimally invasive procedures with smaller incisions, reduced blood loss and faster recovery compared with open surgery. Operations are fully directed by the surgeon from a dedicated console, which provides a magnified three-dimensional view of the operative field.

Hospital manager Traian Constantin highlighted the dual goal of widening patient access and educating the next generation of robotic surgeons. The initiative is part of a broader research and training effort involving the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Fundeni Clinical Institute, covering hundreds of doctoral and post-doctoral participants until 2029.

Why it matters
