BuCor chief orders complaints against former CIW leaders over trust fund misuse

BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. instructed the filing of administrative, criminal and civil complaints against two former Correctional Institution for Women superintendents and five additional personnel after a probe into missing prisoners' trust fund money. He accepted the Directorate for Intelligence and Investigation’s advice to bring administrative charges before the Office of Internal Affairs Service.

The former superintendent is accused of gross neglect of duty and grave misconduct for not properly supervising, reconciling and controlling the fund, and for using it on renovations to the Multipurpose Hall, Overseer’s Office and IVSU. The acting superintendent is alleged to have authorized a P300,000 advance to cover a remittance that was not properly transmitted. An internal audit reported an unaccounted amount of several million pesos, with a later audit confirming a larger shortfall, leading Catapang to order a second review of the findings.
