Burger King and McDonald’s unveil revamped chicken nugget offerings with new sauces

Burger King introduced a reworked nugget recipe and a special savory dip, while McDonald’s brought back its spicy nuggets and Mighty Hot Sauce.

In a coordinated menu rollout, Burger King and McDonald’s each released a new version of their chicken nuggets. Burger King’s chief executive Tom Curtis explained that the chain re-engineered the nuggets to be meatier and crispier after receiving customer complaints about texture, and added a limited-time Special Savory Sauce blending BBQ, ketchup, garlic, onion and black pepper. The chain also refreshed its honey mustard, buffalo and sweet-and-sour sauces.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s reintroduced Spicy Chicken McNuggets, which were last seen on menus in 2024 and are coated in a tempura batter seasoned with cayenne and chili peppers. The fast-food giant also brought back the Mighty Hot Sauce, a blend of crushed red pepper, cayenne, garlic and a hint of sweetness, promoted as its hottest dipping sauce since 2017.

Why it matters

The launches show how major fast-food brands compete by refreshing popular items to attract and retain customers.
