Burnham faces calls to disclose Manchester City contacts as club appeals financial breach ruling

Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s past meetings with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, including a formal session at the 2021 Global Investment Summit and an informal encounter at Vincent Kompany’s 2019 testimonial, have been detailed by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Burnham expressed concern about a potential sale of the club after a Premier League verdict found the club breached over 100 financial regulations.

Conservative sport spokesman Louie French has called for full transparency, and opposition politician Kemi Badenoch has pressed Burnham and the Prime Minister for disclosure. Burnham has pledged to publish every record of his dealings with the Abu Dhabi ownership, while the club is appealing a Premier League commission’s finding that it arranged sham commercial deals breaching rules from 2009 to 2018.
