Bursa Malaysia slips slightly as investors await new market catalysts
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI closed marginally lower on Monday, reflecting weak buying interest amid a lack of fresh drivers.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI ended the session at 1,670.02, down 0.09%, after opening slightly above 1,672. The market breadth was negative, with 748 losers versus 388 gainers, and turnover declined to RM2.40 billion. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd’s equity research vice-president highlighted ongoing external pressures and foreign outflows, but said the recent correction could lure bargain hunters into fundamentally strong heavyweights.
Berjaya Research’s head of research warned that US job openings and consumer confidence figures due tomorrow may shape expectations for the Federal Reserve and global risk appetite. Among individual stocks, Maybank slipped to RM10.16, while Hong Leong Bank rose to RM23.36. Sector indices showed mixed moves, with the Financial Services Index gaining and the Plantation Index falling sharply.
Why it matters
The modest decline signals cautious investor sentiment in Malaysia and could influence regional market trends.
