Late Friday night, a yellow bus carrying the Salem High School football team and staff overturned at the Georgia State Route 138 and I-20 interchange in Rockdale County. Authorities say one outlet-year-old driver attempted a right turn onto SR 138, lost control, and the bus slid across both directions of traffic before striking a 35-year-old driver of a Kia Soul and rolling onto its side. Twenty-two students and three adults were rushed to local hospitals, including one student who was airlifted; as of Saturday only one student remains admitted.
Rockdale County Public Schools expressed gratitude to first responders and emphasized privacy for the victims. The district and Greater Atlanta Christian School offered prayers and support, while the Youth Peace and Justice Foundation pledged mental-health resources for those affected. Investigators continue to examine the incident’s cause.
