A bus accident on the road linking Växjö and Alvesta claimed the life of an 18-year-old and injured more than 40 passengers, with roughly ten sustaining serious wounds. Authorities have arrested the driver, a man in his 60s, on probable cause of causing another's death. In February 2024 he was stopped for driving a car with a blood-alcohol level of 1.07 per mille and was sentenced to 50 hours of community service for aggravated drunk driving.
Later that year he secured permanent employment with Connect Bus, but was restricted to operating only vehicles fitted with a personal alcohol interlock, a restriction that lasted until May. He also faces convictions for fleeing a traffic accident scene and for repeated speeding. No evidence links the crash to intoxication.
