Bus overturns into Tamil Nadu river, leaving over 20 passengers trapped

A state-run bus traveling between Tenkasi and Tirunelveli capsized and plunged roughly 30 feet into the Azhutha Kanni river close to Vettaikarankulam in Tenkasi district, leaving more than 20 of the 32 people on board trapped. Police reported that 17 passengers sustained injuries, while the driver, Sivasakthi, aged 49, was seriously hurt and transferred to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Rescue personnel from Tenkasi fire and rescue, supported by Courtallam Police, rushed to the scene to conduct a rescue operation, and the remaining injured were taken to Tenkasi Government Hospital.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. In an unrelated incident, a bus in Visakhapatnam caught fire after all passengers had safely left the Dwaraka Bus Station; the vehicle was completely destroyed despite prompt fire-engine response.
