Manchester’s Bee network has installed nearly 300 Vix Technology ITD-2810S displays to provide real-time bus arrival data, including audio cues for visually impaired passengers. One of these units showed a Windows Defender firewall alert instead of the scheduled bus to Altrincham, suggesting that Vix's Remote Software Manager attempted to communicate through the firewall. The warning appears to be the result of a configuration error rather than a genuine security threat.
Engineers from Vix are expected to address the issue. The episode underscores the growing integration of digital signage with networked software and the occasional glitches that can arise.
