Bus-Truck Collision on Kenya’s Nairobi-Mombasa Highway Leaves at Least 22 Dead

A bus and a truck collided on the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway, killing at least 22 people and injuring several others.

On Sunday, a bus struck a truck along Kenya’s primary highway linking Nairobi and Mombasa, resulting in at least 22 fatalities. Survivors, who were traveling back from a funeral, were taken to hospitals for treatment. Police and local officials, including Makueni County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif, indicated the death count might increase as the injured are assessed.

The incident follows a similar crash three weeks earlier that claimed 17 lives on the same route. Kenya’s National Transport and Safety Authority has designated the area a high-risk “accident black spot” and previously recommended safety improvements. While investigators have not yet determined the precise cause, past accidents on the corridor have been linked to speeding and deteriorating road conditions.
