BYU School of Medicine Secures Preliminary Accreditation to Admit First Cohort

BYU President Shane Reese announced that the university’s School of Medicine has earned preliminary accreditation, allowing it to recruit its inaugural class and begin an MD program in July 2027.

The announcement came from President Shane Reese, confirming that the BYU School of Medicine met the standards set by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. This preliminary accreditation permits the school to start accepting students for its first class. The MD program is slated to launch in July 2027, following the university’s 2024 declaration of the new medical school. The LCME’s site visit last spring was deemed successful, paving the way for this milestone.

Why it matters
