Cabinet poised to lift wheat MSP by ₹25 to ₹2,610 per quintal for 2027-28

According to insiders, the Union Cabinet is set to approve a ₹25 per quintal increase in the wheat minimum support price, taking it to ₹2,610 for the 2027-28 rabi marketing year. The previous year's MSP stood at ₹2,585 per quintal. The agriculture ministry, following the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices' advice, suggested the rise to account for production expenses, El Nino concerns and global price movements. The recommendation was reportedly cleared in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ministry also aims for a wheat harvest of 121 million tonnes in the 2026-27 crop year.
