Cadillac F1 Dismisses Founding Team Principal Graeme Lowdon

Cadillac F1 has terminated Graeme Lowdon, the executive who built the team from scratch, and appointed former Renault official Marcin Budkowski as his successor.

Cadillac F1 announced the dismissal of Graeme Lowdon, the first executive hired to create the team, sparking surprise among Formula 1 insiders. Lowdon was responsible for hiring personnel at various tiers and setting up the operational framework that enabled Cadillac to join the grid. The organization has now turned to Marcin Budkowski, who previously served as Renault’s executive director and FIA technical chief, to steer the team forward with greater technical focus.

Former F1 personality Will Buxton, speaking on the Up To Speed podcast with David Coulthard and Naomi Schiff, credited Lowdon for the swift establishment of the outfit, noting that without his experience the team would not have made its debut. Buxton also highlighted Lowdon’s recent acknowledgment that his skill set was suited to the building stage rather than long-term leadership. The move reflects Cadillac’s aim to close the performance gap by bringing in deeper technical expertise, even if the change was abrupt.

Why it matters

The leadership shift could affect Cadillac's competitiveness and strategy in the upcoming Formula 1 season.
