Calgary murder trial begins for man accused of killing missing Christopher Stevenson

In Calgary, the second-degree murder trial of Shaun Alexander Folk commenced, focusing on the alleged killing of missing individual Christopher Stevenson. Police investigations determined Stevenson entered an apartment building in the early morning hours before disappearing, leading to Folk's charge in August 2024. A second defendant, Ali El-Sayed, faces an accessory-after-the-fact charge.

Crown prosecutor Donna Spaner presented a theory that the murder stemmed from a money dispute, with the body allegedly moved to a rural Rockyview County property and incinerated in a burn barrel. Evidence to be presented includes CCTV footage, forensic blood and DNA findings, cell-phone data, and items recovered from the alleged burn site. Approximately 30 witnesses, including Stevenson's mother, are expected to testify over several weeks.
