Calgary officer wounded twice as suspect flees, later found dead in Bow River

At approximately 11:45 a.m., Calgary police officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Edworthy Park, during which an occupant opened fire, hitting an officer twice. The injured officer was reported to be in stable condition and in good spirits, according to Chief Katie McLellan. The suspect escaped on foot, commandeered a second car, and crashed it within the park before continuing his flight on foot, even shooting at a Helicopter Air Watch for Community Safety aircraft.

Police tracked him and later discovered his body in the Bow River, noting a self-inflicted gunshot wound, though it remains unclear if officers also struck him. The Calgary Fire Department assisted with the recovery, and a heavy police presence continued to secure the area. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting.
