In the latest annual assessment by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, California schools dominated, securing 283 placements—the most of any state. Every institution within the Madera Unified School District earned a spot, highlighted by Matilda Torres High, which received flawless marks across all nine health categories. The ranking considers evidence-based standards in areas such as nutrition access, physical education, and social-emotional health.
Across the country, fewer than 200 schools out of nearly 1,400 achieved the all-star status. The announcement underscores the impact of prioritizing student, staff and family wellness, a point emphasized by Traci Causey, CEO of Healthier Generation. Notable California schools from regions like San Diego, Santa Clarita, Orange County and the Inland Empire also made the list. The findings suggest that comprehensive wellness programs can create environments where educational communities thrive.
