California patients receive $68.81 checks from Sutter Health settlement
Eligible Californians who used Sutter Health's MyHealthOnline portal are now getting $68.81 payments as the class-action settlement is distributed.
Sutter Health agreed to a $21.5 million settlement after a lawsuit alleged the health system shared patients' personal information without consent. The agreement provides a $68.81 payment to each qualifying claimant who accessed the MyHealthOnline portal from June 10 2015 through March 20 2020. Distribution started on Aug. 21 and is slated to run until Oct. 4, using digital methods such as Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or traditional checks.
The original estimate of up to $90 per person was lowered after a high volume of valid claims. Approximately 3.6 million people receive care from Sutter Health, creating a large pool of potential recipients. Individuals who failed to file a claim before the deadline are ineligible for any share of the settlement.
