On Aug. 12, a California Highway Patrol canine officer in the Central Division halted a 2025 Honda CR-V in Merced County for an alleged traffic infraction. Observing multiple indicators of potential criminal conduct, the officer conducted a vehicle search that uncovered a bag holding roughly 30 pounds of suspected cocaine, which officials appraise at $817,200 on the street market. The motorist was arrested and booked into the Merced County Main Jail, facing charges of possession of cocaine for sale and transportation of the drug across non-contiguous counties.
The Merced Area Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team (MAGNET) is overseeing the case. This seizure follows recent large-scale drug busts, including a multi-ton cocaine haul at the Calexico Port of Entry and a cucumber shipment that concealed millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine.
