California woman charged with murder after allegedly running down friend and linked to later stabbing death
Anila Baby, 32, was arrested and charged with murder after a SUV she drove struck her friend Anjana Hari in a Milpitas parking lot, and investigators later linked her to a separate stabbing death of Ann Mary Mathew.
On Friday around noon, Anjana Hari was walking toward Anila Baby’s parked SUV at Mill Creek Apartments in Milpitas when Baby allegedly drove forward and struck her, killing Hari from severe head trauma. The vehicle then hit three other cars before Baby fled the complex; she was later located in a Walgreens parking lot with visible injuries. At 1:53 p.m., San Jose police responded to a residence where Ann Mary Mathew was found stabbed and pronounced dead.
Both victims were close friends of Baby, and investigators have suggested Baby’s involvement in the stabbing, though no official link has been released. Baby remains jailed without bail in Santa Clara County and is scheduled for a court appearance on September 10. The case has shocked the local Malayalee community.
