Călin Georgescu detained as DIICOT seeks pre‑trial custody in fraud probe
Authorities intercepted Călin Georgescu near Otopeni, carried out a raid at his Mogoșoaia residence and moved him to DIICOT headquarters for interrogation. DIICOT prosecutors have asked the Bucharest Tribunal to impose a 30‑day preventive detention on Georgescu and businessman Ionel Rusen in connection with a fraud investigation that also involves Italian citizen Massimiliano Arena. After a 24‑hour hold, Georgescu was transferred to Central Detention and spent his first night in Bucharest Central Prison. Outside the DIICOT building, supporters and members of the AUR party gathered to protest his detention.
