Caltrans distributes free HEPA purifiers to households near Vincent Thomas Bridge detours
Caltrans will give eligible Southern California residents a Medify Air MA-40 purifier and three filters at no cost to offset indoor pollution from traffic rerouted during the Vincent Thomas Bridge closure.
To mitigate expected indoor air quality issues from construction-related traffic shifts, Caltrans is offering a complimentary Medify Air MA-40 HEPA purifier plus three replacement filters to qualifying residents near the upcoming Vincent Thomas Bridge shutdown. Eligibility requires living within 750 feet of official detour corridors such as Pacific Coast Highway, Anaheim Street, Harry Bridges Boulevard, Alameda Street, Gaffey Street, or the East I Street interchange.
Caltrans mailed postcards containing unique registration codes, and LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn highlighted the initiative on social media. Applicants must confirm their address on the program website, receive pickup instructions via email, and present proof of residence at collection; photo ID is optional. The giveaway remains available until supplies are exhausted, with the reservation and wait-list cutoff set for May 1 and the overall program ending in June 2027.
