Calvin Demba's New Short Film Features George MacKay and Cast of 'Supacell'

Calvin Demba, known for the Netflix series “Supacell,” is set to release his second short film, “The Animals,” featuring a cast led by George MacKay alongside Louisa Harland, Nathalie Emmanuel and Eric Kofi Abrefa. The narrative centers on MacKay’s character, Miles, who wrestles with feelings of emasculation and emotional impotence, a struggle that intensifies after a violent home invasion. Produced by Tuli Litvak, the short was captured on 16mm by cinematographer Ebba Hult and edited by Mdhamiri Á Nkemi, with colour grading by Jodie Davison.

Executive production is handled by BAFTA-winning Mouktar Mohammed and Sheila Nortley, with Demba and Harland also credited. The filmmakers describe the piece as a darkly comic satire on gender stereotypes and modern relationships, aiming for a grounded tone despite the violence. “The Animals” is slated to debut at an upcoming BAFTA- and Oscar-qualifying festival, and Demba is already developing a feature-length version with the BFI.
