Canada condemns Israel's Lebanon incursion and pledges fresh aid

Canada's Secretary of State for International Development denounced Israel's actions in Lebanon and announced additional humanitarian assistance.

Canada's Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, condemned Israel's military moves in Lebanon as unlawful and urged respect for Lebanese territorial authority. While in Beirut, he announced three new humanitarian initiatives, raising Canada's 2024 aid total to more than 71 million Canadian dollars. Over the last ten years, Canada has contributed about 800 million Canadian dollars to Lebanon, including recent funding for food, medical care and basic services.

Sarai visited displacement shelters and Syrian refugee sites, emphasizing a commitment to a safe environment for returning refugees. He also met President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who are working on reforms to address corruption and revive the economy.
