Canada pledges $100 million for Palestinian aid and sanctions Israeli settler groups

During a United Nations session, Prime Minister Mark Carney disclosed a fresh $100 million aid commitment for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, with $20 million directed toward peace and security initiatives. This contribution adds to more than $600 million Canada has provided since October 2023. The announcement also referenced Canada’s sanctions against two Israeli cabinet ministers and seven entities, including the NGO Regavim, for allegedly facilitating settler violence.
Regavim’s director general, Meir Deutsch, characterized the organization as a legal and policy think tank that engages with legislators and the press. He emphasized its focus on research and court filings rather than direct activism. The sanctions illustrate Canada’s broader strategy of linking financial aid with accountability measures against groups it says enable violence.
