Canada to issue one-time $150 supplement for disability benefit recipients
The federal government will add a $150 one-time payment to eligible Canada Disability Benefit recipients to help cover disability tax credit costs.
A new one-time $150 payment is being added to the Canada Disability Benefit to assist recipients with expenses tied to the disability tax credit application. Employment and Social Development Canada disclosed that the supplement will be automatically deposited for those who qualified for the benefit from July 2025 through June 2026, with the first disbursement scheduled for Sept. 17 alongside the regular benefit. Individuals who began receiving the benefit after July 2026 will receive the extra amount in winter 2027, once new tax credit certificates are approved.
To qualify for the Canada Disability Benefit, applicants must first obtain the disability tax credit, which reduces income tax liability. The supplemental payment aims to reduce the financial burden of obtaining the required T2201 certificate, which some practitioners charge for.
Why it matters
The payment eases the cost of accessing tax credits that enable low-income Canadians with disabilities to receive vital financial support.
