Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney begins visit to Turkey for trade talks

Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Ankara for a two‑day trip, greeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex. The leaders signed multiple agreements covering energy, nuclear plant construction, sustainable mining and defence cooperation, and opened talks on a free‑trade agreement and Turkey’s entry into Canada’s Defence, Security and Resilience Bank. The Canadian delegation includes Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Energy Minister Tim Hodgson, who will also meet Turkish business leaders in Istanbul. Canada recently removed its ban on exporting weapons to Turkey, and trade between the two countries has risen about 50% over the past five years.
