Canadian defence officials inspect South Korea's air-missile defence installations
A Canadian defence ministry team toured key South Korean air-defence sites, including the KAMD centre at Osan and factories of Hanwha Aerospace and LIG Defense.
Canadian defence ministry representatives conducted a tour of South Korea’s air-defence infrastructure, starting with the Korea Air and Missile Defense (KAMD) operations centre at Osan Air Base near Seoul. They continued to Hanwha Aerospace’s manufacturing site in Changwon and LIG Defense & Aerospace’s plant in Gumi. The itinerary is part of Canada’s effort to strengthen its integrated air and missile defence (IAMD) capabilities in a shifting strategic environment.
The ministry described the mission as an industry visit with a military-to-military component, intended to inform the Joint Office for IAMD about the Republic of Korea’s current and developing systems. The engagement supports Canada’s broader modernization of its binational defence arrangement with the United States under NORAD. Officials expect the insights gained to enhance Canada’s deterrence and defence against air and missile threats.
Why it matters
The visit helps Canada improve its air-missile defence by learning from South Korea’s advanced systems.
