Canadian food agency recalls several organic cheeses over possible Listeria risk
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a national recall of organic cheeses from Farm Boy, L'Ancêtre and Life Smart due to potential Listeria contamination, with no illnesses reported so far.
A nationwide recall has been launched by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency after laboratory tests indicated possible Listeria presence in several organic cheese lines. The affected range comprises Farm Boy organic Swiss and multiple cheddar varieties, Life Smart organic part-skim mozzarella, and a selection of shredded cheeses produced by L'Ancêtre, all bearing best-before dates through 2027. These products were distributed to retailers throughout Canada.
The agency stresses that the cheeses may appear normal in appearance and smell, yet still pose a health risk, and urges anyone holding them to either discard them or return them to the retailer. To date, no illnesses have been associated with consumption of the recalled items.
Why it matters
Consumers need to avoid potentially contaminated cheese to prevent Listeria infection, especially vulnerable groups.
