Canberra man sentenced to prison for shooting stranger after girlfriend dispute

Bradley John Wilson received a jail term after using a homemade shotgun to shoot a man in the face and shoulder in March last year.

A court convicted Bradley John Wilson of firing a self-made shotgun at close range, seriously injuring a victim's face and shoulder. Wilson said he acted to exact retribution because the victim had been intimate with his girlfriend. The girlfriend allegedly enticed the victim to the house by claiming she wanted to purchase drugs. Wilson will become eligible for parole in March 2027, taking into account time already served.

Why it matters

The case underscores risks of homemade weapons and personal revenge crimes in urban areas.
