Cancer patients and farmers rally to demand an end to pesticide use

Thousands of cancer sufferers, farmers and supporters marched from Gaillon to Saint-Pierre-la-Garenne, calling for a halt to pesticide production.

Under a banner stating that pesticide victims refuse to die in silence, a sizable procession of farmers, cancer patients, medical staff, activists and concerned citizens marched together. The rally was coordinated by Soulèvements de la Terre, Confédération paysanne, the Collectif de soutien aux victimes des pesticides de l’Ouest (CSVPO) and Cancer Colère. Starting in Gaillon, Eure, the route led to Saint-Pierre-la-Garenne, where a Syngenta pesticide factory has operated for more than seven decades.

Participants highlighted the link between agro-chemical exposure and health harms, urging authorities to ban such substances. At the same time, a parallel protest took place in Switzerland, where Syngenta’s headquarters are located, echoing the call “no pesticides, Syngenta: neither here nor elsewhere.” The demonstrations aimed to pressure policymakers and the corporation to cease pesticide production.
