Candace Owens sued again over false claims linking a witness to Charlie Kirk's killing
A Utah witness to Charlie Kirk's assassination, Robert Hild, filed a federal defamation suit against podcaster Candace Owens for alleging his involvement in the murder.
A federal complaint filed by Robert Hild, a former data scientist and Mormon missionary who witnessed the September 2025 assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, accuses Candace Owens of defamation. The lawsuit alleges Owens repeatedly claimed Hild helped orchestrate the killing, had connections to hostile foreign entities, and was part of a "gothic" and "communist" underground, leading to death threats, doxxing and severe emotional distress.
Hild’s attorneys say Owens leveraged a podcast episode titled “They are Lying About Tyler Robinson” to equate Hild with the alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, and even linked him to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a broader conspiracy narrative. Owens is already defending a separate defamation suit by Brian Harpole, Kirk’s former private security chief. In court filings, Owens maintains that her statements constitute rhetorical hyperbole and protected opinion. The complaints highlight a pattern of spreading unverified theories about the murder, implicating various foreign governments and even Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk.
