Canpotex commits $500 million to upgrade North Vancouver potash export terminal
Canpotex will invest $500 million to modernise the Neptune Bulk Terminals facility in North Vancouver, enhancing the flow of Saskatchewan potash to overseas markets.
Canpotex, the major Saskatchewan potash exporter, disclosed a $500 million capital injection to revamp the Neptune Bulk Terminals in North Vancouver. The upgrade will involve replacing aging gear and refurbishing infrastructure to ensure reliable export capacity for the province’s potash output. Gordon McKenzie, president and CEO of Canpotex, presented the plan at a groundbreaking ceremony, stressing its importance for feeding global agriculture.
Vancouver Fraser Port Authority President Peter Xotta described the investment as crucial for connecting Saskatchewan potash to key markets in South America, the Indo-Pacific and beyond. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said the project will generate new opportunities, support good jobs and strengthen the province’s position in the global potash market. Canpotex already moves more than 15 million tonnes of potash annually to over 40 countries, handling product from producers such as Nutrien and Mosaic Canada.
