Canva launches its own AI image generator, Canva Craft, for designers
Design platform Canva introduced Canva Craft, an AI model that creates high-resolution images from text prompts and integrates directly into its design tools.
Canva unveiled its first in-house image-generation AI, named Canva Craft, to compete with similar tools from Google, OpenAI, ByteDance and Meta. The system first interprets a user’s textual prompt, devising a detailed layout plan that includes spatial relationships, scale and visual hierarchy, before producing a final image at up to 2K resolution across 30 possible aspect ratios. By training on Canva’s own design templates—posters, social posts, presentations and typography-rich layouts—the model can output graphics that convert into layered designs through Canva Magic, allowing precise edits without affecting other elements.
Canva Craft is accessible to all platform users via the Dream Lab tab and will also be offered through the Canva API and integrated into chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini via Canva’s MCP. The company is preparing faster, cost-efficient variants called Craftfast and Craft-ultrafast, and notes that the new model should reduce API expenses while improving quality and speed.
Why it matters
Canva Craft gives designers AI-generated graphics that are instantly editable, lowering costs and expanding creative options.
